A day after giving its letter of unconditional support in favour of UPA government to the President, Samajwadi Party today said it felt "heart-broken" at the attitude of certain Congress leaders who have been belittling it.

"We have 23 MPs with us and are the third largest party after Congress and BJP. If we have offered our support to Congress, it does not mean some of its leaders should throw stones at us," SP General Secretary Amar Singh told reporters here.
Referring to comments by Congress leaders like Digvijay Singh and Rajeev Shukla that Congress does not require SP support, Singh said they have no right to insult his party. "I am heart broken by the attitude of certain Congress leaders. They had said before the counting that I had used harsh words against Congress saying that I will extract my pound of flesh if (Congress) approaches me after elections. But the question is I have to answer to my party leaders who ask me what SP got in return for its support to the UPA over nuclear deal," Singh said.
Singh described Congress leader Digvijay Singh"s public apology to him a day before the poll results as a "strategy" on the part of Congress. "They (Congress) use their heads and not their hearts whereas last year when we supported them on the nuclear deal we used our heart by not seeking any favour from them," Singh said.
The SP leader said a section of Congress leaders want to strengthen their party in UP at the cost of Samajwadi Party. "Nobody can finish anybody. Congress won 21 seats in UP due to our poor political management and not due to their strategies," he said.
Singh, however, said he will not go to Congress president Sonia Gandhi and complain about certain Congress leaders who are allegedly attacking him because "they will claim that SP is trying to seek favour from her".
He, however, conceded that had Congress and SP were together in UP they could have won more than 40 seats. "Congress did not accept our offer of 19 seats which we had given them because during our seat sharing talks they chose to go it alone in UP," he said.
