As many as eight power companies have shown interest in setting up a 1,320 Mw thermal Plant near Rajpura in Patiala.

Punjab State Electricity Board (PSEB) Chairman H S Brar said today that the board had got overwhelming response as eight firms have purchased Request for Qualification (RFQ) and Request for Proposal (RFP) documents.
They are NTPC, Reliance Power, L&T Power, Welspun Urja India, Essar Power, Dalmia Cement (Bharat), GMR Energy and Adani Power.
Due to global recession only one company, Lanco Infratech, participated in the bidding earlier but as per guidelines of the Punjab State Electricity Regulatory Commission (PSERC), the Letter of Intent (LoI) could not be issued to the firm.
In compliance with the order of PSERC, rebidding had been done and Request for Qualification (RFQ) and Request for Proposal (RFP) documents were floated on June 10 with the due date of submission on August 31.
The LoI for the Rajpura Thermal plant is expected to be issued by next month and the first unit of 660 Mw is expected by September 2013 and second unit in January 2014.
Land of 1,078 acres had been acquired and all requisite clearances have also been obtained.
