Overseas investors buy Rs 994 crore of stocks

They placed a net Rs 8,160 crore in bonds. Purchases by global investors have reached $16.6 billion this year, approaching the record $17.2 billion of net inflow into stocks in 2007. That’s fueled a 78 per cent advance in the benchmark Sensitive Index this year, with the index poised for the biggest annual gain in 18 years. The funds bought a net Rs 6,900 crore of debt this year, compared with Rs 11,800 crore in 2008. Overseas funds have placed $71.8 billion in Indian equities since they were allowed into the country in 1993. They withdrew a record Rs 53,000 crore in 2008, triggering the biggest annual decline on record. The regulator provides data on shares bought and sold by big investors, including trades in the primary and secondary markets, with a delay of at least a day.
